1 (one) is a number, a numeral and a glyph representing a number. It is a single entity and is usually regarded as a fundamental unit of counting and measurement. For example, a line segment with a “unit length” is a linear segment of length 1.

In mathematics, the number 1 is a natural number, which follows 0 and precedes 2. It is an integer and a cardinal number, i.e. the number used for counting. In addition, it is classified as a real number, which distinguishes it from imaginary numbers. The number 1 is also known as the “identity element” of multiplication (or multiplicative identity) – any number multiplied by one is itself.

Number one also represents unity or oneness. For example, although science is divided into many areas of specialization, scientists recognize the unity of the natural world and the fundamental unity of science. In the religious world, most modern religions teach a common god and the importance of the unity of people based on our common humanity. Cultural people usually recognize that power flows from unity, and weakness is the result of disunity. In addition, the number one is the prestigious practice number of each race, since the champion is ranked as “Number One.”

In chemistry, 1 is the atomic number of hydrogen, the smallest chemical element. Group 1 in the Periodic Table of the Elements consists of alkali metals, which usually have a valence of +1. Also period 1 in the periodic table consists of two elements: hydrogen and helium.
