Acorns are a staple food of many indigenous people. Oak provide safe and nutritious food. Acorn nuts are also cooked or crushed to produce oil, which is valued for cooking and as an ointment for wounds and burns. In addition, the acorns are the main diet of deer, bears and many other animals and birds.
