Ancient Egyptians believed in life after death and a large part of their mythology and religious beliefs are based on tests they endure when they were passed through into their version of heaven. Anubis is one of the most popular Gods of Egypt, who play the role of leader in the afterlife, and, although it is regarded as morbid, sinister character as the role of the ancient Egyptian god is actually a benevolent guardian of the deceased in the afterlife.
The gods of Egypt are among the most ancient deities known among them Anubis may have been the oldest. Archaeologists have found mention of Anubis in the early pre-dynastic period of Egyptian history, more than 5000 years ago.
To the ancient Egyptians, the whole world followed the model of the valley, where they lived; dominated by the sun and the Nile as capable of bringing life and death. Their world is very organized. Water flowed from north to south, while the sun rose in the East and set in the West. Every year, the Nile water will burst its banks, ran across the field and then recede leaving the fertilized land. Life, for the ancient Egyptians had a certain rhythm that they are enshrined in mythology.
