Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger is an Austrian-American actor, director, businessman, writer, and former professional bodybuilder and politician. He served as the 38th governor of California from 2003 to 2011. Since 2019, he has been California’s newest Republican Governor.

Born in Thal, Austria, Arnold Schwarzenegger was born on July 30, 1947, to parents Gustav and Aurelia Schwarzenegger. Growing up in a profoundly Catholic family, He was accustomed to attending mass every Sunday. He was not spared the rod every time he or his older brother Meinhard did something wrong or disobeyed their parents. Gustav has an excellent preference for his older brother, who has been described as “strong and blatant” (Gustav was the local police chief), which was the brainchild of the unfounded suspicion that Arnold Schwarzenegger was not his biological son. However, he was very close to his mother and even maintained contact until her death in 1998. In 1965, he also served in the Austrian army, completing one year of compulsory service required of all Austrian men from 18 years. He went AWOL in basic training so that he could join (and possibly win) the Junior Mr. Europe competition. He then spent a week in military prison. He won the amateur title of Mr. Universe in 1967, the professional title the year thereafter. He won his first title Mr. Olympia in 1970 at the age of 23, making him the youngest titleholder to date.

Picking up his first barbell in 1960, Arnold Schwarzenegger practiced various sports under the strong influence of his father. By choosing bodybuilding rather than football as a career at the age of 14, he officially started his weight training at the age of 15. Winning the coveted Mr. Universe title at a tender age of 20, he also won the Mr. Olympia title for an amazing seven times! Remaining a prominent name in the world of bodybuilding, he is also the author of numerous books and articles on sport and has even sparked controversy in his political career as Governor of the 38th State of California when, shortly after his election, he was appointed executive director of two publishing magazines, Muscle & Fitness and Flex. The two magazines, agreeing to donate $250,000 a year to the Governor’s various fitness initiatives, and including a contract that awarded him at least $1 million a year, have been criticized by many as a conflict of major interests because the same office is responsible for decisions on the regulation of dietary supplements.
