Christmas tree as we know it hails from Germany. Christmas decorations, as is usually assumed to come from this part of the world where decorating the Christmas tree with simple white candles became very fashionable (but quite dangerous by today’s standards). For several centuries, baubles covers a great range of designs and materials.
Christmas baubles are indispensable in the decoration of the Christmas tree. While the tree can look great without fixing garlands, beads and lights, Christmas decorations is one thing, you just can not leave. Latvians expanded tree decoration, developing new fashion for decorating tree with roses, which have traditionally represented the Virgin Mary. French took this trend a step further by development of paper flowers, and flowers made of silk, which is obviously much long-lasting.
The French also decorated their Christmas trees with candles (again something of a fire hazard), sweets, nuts and biscuits. The tendency to decorate the tree grew in the 17th century, when the community tried to outdo each other, cutting ostentatious decoration of their own. The trend of hanging eggshells on trees, painted in bright colors, steel with decorative patterns and doubts that this is the beginning of Christmas bauble.
