It’s always very heartbreaking to have one of your ceramic or glass items that hold a sentimental value break. Although you have the money to buy another, you know something that is simply irreplaceable. However, you will find consolation in knowing that if your valuables have not been broken into a million pieces, you can put them together using glue. With a small procedure on how to glue the glass, you will find your precious appearance as new.

While multi-purpose glue can also do the job, to form a firm, durable bond, you’ll need to use specialized glue only for glass bonds. One of the first things you should do is put on protective gloves that will make sure you don’t cut from any sharp edges. Second, you need to start preparing by cleaning the glass to get rid of any debris or dirt that could interfere with the bonding process. Cleaning should be done slowly and carefully with water, after which all parts are left to dry. Remember not to wipe the sharp edges as you may injure yourself.

Before you start the glass bonding process, you need to make sure that you have all of the tools you will need. Some of them, including a small bowl and stick, molding clay, masking tapes, and rubber bands, all depend on the item you are repairing. To start, you need to pour the two parts of the epoxy glue in your small bowl and mix well with the stick that you had prepared. Note that the glue you mix should be just enough to cover one side, not both. Once the glue is well mixed, use a small stick or a toothpick to apply it to one side of the broken glass. Apply pressure by holding the pieces together for at least 30 minutes or as directed on the glue bottle.

Once the glue is in place, use the rubber band for around surface element such as a vase or a cap, pegs, or clothespins for a plate, to hold the broken pieces together. Your valuable should then be kept in this state for at least 24 hours or as long as your bottle of glue specifies. With this procedure followed for the latter, you will have your vase or your plate as new.
