Cameroon flag consists of three vertical stripes – the left green stripe; middle one red; and the right stripe is yellow. In the middle of the flag and the red line is a five-pointed yellow star.
Red, yellow and green colors, and Pan-African flag pattern is similar to the French tricolor. The green color of the flag symbolizes the rich forest vegetation of the southern region of the country, and meant hope for a happy future. Red represents independence and unity; while the yellow represents the savannas in the north and the sun as a source of happiness in Cameroon. The star symbolizes the unity of the country.
Cameroon flag was adopted on May 20, 1975 after Cameroon was made a unitary state. Cameroon gained independence from France on January 1, 1960.
Cameroon is the second modern African country (after Ghana) for the adoption of pan-African colors. They are based on the colors of the Ethiopian flag.
