The castle (from Latin: castellum) is a type of fortified structure built in Europe and the Middle East in the Middle Ages by nobility. Scholars are discussing the scale of the word castle, but as a rule, consider it a private fortified residence of a lord or noble.
The Normans were the master builders of the castle. After 1066, England witnessed a massive program of construction of the castle on the orders of William the Conqueror. Firstly, motte and bailey castles were build. After William was firmly established rule in England, he built huge stone castles.
Castles are developed first in France, Anjou, in 10 cents. The first castles were built in England during the reign of Edward the Confessor by his nephew Ralph and his Norman followers, and were greatly resented the English language as a foreign import.
