Celtic art consists of beautiful geometric shapes. It came from sculpture, carving, and metalworking of ancient Celtic peoples. Classical Celtic art is largely a product of the growth of Christianity in the early part of Britain and Ireland when native styles are combined with Mediterranean influences brought in by Christian missionaries.

History

The first Celts brought their cultural styles derived from the Caucasian Bronze Age, as well as knowledge of the Mediterranean and Etruscan styles from the trading contacts of the sea across the Bosporus between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean basin. Located on the upper Danube, the Celts duly absorbed motifs of the ancient Danube tradition.

Also, they brought with them the knowledge of iron, metal, and jewelry, probably developed from the culture of the Bronze Maikop of the continent of the Russia Caucasus or contacts with the Levant. (Later, the masterpiece La Ten, known as the “Gundestrup Cauldron,” is considered to be produced in the Black Sea region.)

There are three type of Celtic art: Celtic Spirals, The Knotwork, and Key Patterns.
