Clapperboard is one of the oldest tools of the film from the beginning of the 1920s. Clapperboard is a black and white board is the traditional way to deal with synchronization. At the bottom of the clapperboard its usually a slate of some sort, where you can write a scene and take number.
After the recorder and the camera is rolling, the operator places the clapperboard in front of the camera, so the camera can see, read a scene and take information so that the tape recorder can hear it, and then claps the clapper.
