Kevin Steen (born May 7, 1984) is a Canadian professional wrestler currently under contract with WWE, where he performs on the Raw brand under the ring name Kevin Owens.

Steen started his career at the age of 16 in 2000. Before joining WWE in late 2014 in 2007, Steen wrestled under the birth name of the Ring of Honor (ROH), which held the ROH World Championship and the ROH World Tag Team Championship. Steen has also wrestled extensively on an independent circuit for 14 years, in particular on the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG) record three times, and the PWG World Tag Team Championship on three occasions.

Steen also participated in the International Wrestling Syndicate (IWS), organized three IWS World Heavyweight Championship, All American Wrestling (AAW), where he hosted the AAW Heavyweight Championship. Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) hosted the Iron Man CZW Championship. He wrestled as Kevin Owens in the WWE NXT development department until his main list debut in May 2015. He was once an NXT champion. United States Championship three times.

Early life

Kevin Steen was born May 7, 1984, in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, and grew up in Marieville, Quebec. He has a brother named Edward. He is French Canadian and speaks French as his mother tongue. He learned to speak English as a teenager by imitating everything he heard while watching WWE Monday Night Raw. He participated in ice hockey, soccer, and baseball, but after being injured at the age of 11, he had no plans to improve his career, especially in soccer. Becoming a professional wrestler after he and his father watched a videotape of the match between Diesel and Shawn Michaels compete at WrestleMania XI.

Early Career (2000-2004)

When Steen was 14, his parents allowed him to start training with Serge Jodoin, a Quebec wrestler. The following year, Steen began training with Jacques Rougeau. He also trained with Terry Taylor. Steen played his first match on May 7, 2000 (16th birthday) in L’Assomption, Quebec. Steen was trained at the Rougeau and wrestled on promoting the Rougeau for four years before starting to wrestle with several other Canadian promotions.
