Komodo dragon is the largest living lizard. The largest verified specimen reach a length of 10.3 feet (3.13 m) tall and weighed 366 pounds (166 kg). This may include a significant amount of undigested food. More typical wild largest dragon weight are about 154 pounds (70 kg). Although Komodo can run briefly at speeds up to 13 miles per hour (20 km per hour), its hunting strategy is based on stealth and power. They can spend hours in the same place, waiting for deer, wild boar, goat, or something pretty big and nutritious.
Monitors can see objects as far as 985 feet (300 meters), so the appearance does not play a role in the hunt, as their eyes are better picking up the movement of the most complex of stationary objects. Their retinas possess only cones, so they may be able to distinguish colors, but has poor vision in low light conditions. They have a much smaller range of hearing than humans. As a result, an animal that can not hear these sounds as a deep voice or a high-pitched scream.
