Mardi Gras has long combined the activities of wild streets, open to everyone with events organized by private clubs known as krewes. It’s a child-friendly season everywhere in New Orleans, except Bourbon Street. This is a day of carefree indulgence, marked by revelers in bizarre costumes dancing in the street. It is French for Fat Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday.

Mardi Gras is undoubtedly the oldest holiday in Louisiana. Mentioned with different names. Mardi Gras or “Fat Tuesday” is the day before Lent begins. The Mardi Gras Indians have been parading in New Orleans since the mid-19th century, perhaps before that.
