Merry Christmas – Christmas is celebrated in December, thousands of people each year worldwide. Look forward to this special day on December 25 it is common for people to greet each other with the words saying “Merry Christmas”. It is to wish them a safe and happy holiday.
Looking back over the Christmas story takes us all the way back, a little more than 2,000 years before the birth of Jesus Christ. The celebration of Christmas was originally to join others in remembering the birth of the Savior of the world.
The actual word “Christmas” literally means “Mass of Christ.” Although the birth of Jesus took place more than two millennia ago, Christmas is not celebrated for years. Historically, the fourth-century saint, St. Nicholas has earned a reputation as a secret gift-giver. It is said that St. Nicholas put coins in the shoes of those who left them out for him.
From the time of St. Nicholas, Christmas continues to flourish and become popular among people of different faiths. While starting with the Christians, Christmas is celebrated by Christians and non-Christians. Although the ways that people celebrate Christmas may be different, depending on their faith, it is true to say that Christmas is a time of goodwill, kindness, and wishing “Merry Christmas” to others, more than any other time of the year.
