Salvia leucantha, a Mexican bush sage, is a herbaceous perennial native to subtropical and tropical coniferous forests in central and eastern Mexico. Flowers are usually white, emerging from colored bracts. It is not resistant to frost but is often grown in a warmer width due to its prominent velvety blue or purple inflorescences.

It reaches 1.3 m in height and 2 m (6.6 ft) wide, with numerous vertical stems, often curved at the ends and with long inflorescences. Linear lanceolate leaves are soft, medium green, with whitish, pubescent underneath.

This plant has a decorative value in the garden and received an award for the merits of the Royal Garden Society. It is a low-maintenance plant that grows best in full sun and moist but well-drained soils. Flowers attract butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds.

The name Salvia comes from the Latin meaning “healer.” This is the old name for sage, which has healing properties and is homogeneous with the word “balm.” Leucant comes from Greek, which means “white flower.”
