The Nissan Motor Company began its life under a completely different name. It was originally known as Dat Motorcar Co. and was launched in 1914. The name Dat was derived from an acronym for for the companies partners at that time. The original partners were named kenjiro Den, Rokuro Aoyama, Meitaro Takeuchi which gave the DAT Motorcar co its name. In 1918 the company changed its name to Kwaishinsha Motorcar Co., and then in 1925 the name changed again to Dat Motorcar Co. Dat Motorcar Co., which was based in Tokyo, then merged with Jitsuyo Jidosha Co. Ltd in 1926 to become Dat Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. 1931 saw the first use of the real name Datson when Dat Motorcar Co. exited with his first smaller vehicle. The name Datson, translated “Son of DAT”, was used until Nissan took control of DAT Motorcar Co. in 1934. Nissan then changed the name from Datson to Datsun, since the term son also meant the loss of its language.

In the 1930s, Youshisuke Aikawa founded the holding company called Nippon Sangyo, which was transferred to Nippon Industries. It was shortened to the name Nissan. At the time of creation, Nissan controlled the production of steel and auto parts businesses. Aikawa chose to Overview of Nissan Motor Company.

Since 1999, Nissan is part of the Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi Alliance, a partnership between Nissan of Japan, Mitsubishi Motors of Japan and Renault of France. Renault has 43.4 percent of Nissan’s votes since 2013, while Nissan holds 15 percent of Renault’s non-voting shares. From 2009 to 2017, Carlos Ghosn served as Chief Executive Officer of both companies. In February 2017, Ghosn announced that he would resign as CEO of Nissan on April 1, 2017, while remaining president of the company.

In 2013, Nissan became the sixth largest automaker in the world after Toyota, General Motors, Volkswagen Group, Hyundai Motor Group and Ford. Together, the Renault-Nissan Alliance will be the fourth largest car manufacturer in the world. Nissan is the leading Japanese brand in China, Russia and Mexico.

In 2014, Nissan is the largest automaker in North America.

Currently, Nissan is digging ahead and offering higher end vehicles, some of which are focused on the performance market. It is the largest manufacturer of electric vehicles (EV) in the world, with sales of more than 320,000 all-electric vehicles since April 2018. The best car in this series is the Nissan LEAF, an all-electric car and the world’s best-selling electric car in history.

In January 2018, Nissan Chief Executive Officer Hiroto Saikawa announced that all Infiniti cars launched from 2021 will be hybrid vehicles or fully electric cars.
