All kinds of penguins are native to the southern hemisphere, but only a few species live as far south as Antarctica.
A variety of penguin species live in the southern coast of South America, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand and in the islands of the South Atlantic and the Pacific – for example Heard Island and McDonald Islands and Gough.
Galapagos penguins in fact, is endemic to the Galapagos Islands, located along the equator.
Penguins generate heat inside their body. Thus, they huddle together against the harsh elements – and together their body to raise the temperature for two hours to more than 37 degrees above zero.
