Rambo films can continue without the actor who launched them. Sylvester Stallone announced his retirement from the character of John Rambo. However, it has been argued that after the success of ‘Rambo’ in 2008, the studio could continue the Rambo film franchise without it. With Stallone’s participation in the series that seems to be over, it’s a good time to summarize his Rambo films in order. Stallone has been involved in the four films made so far, First Blood, Rambo: First Blood Part II, Rambo III and Rambo.

First blood (1982):

The first of the “Rambo” films, First Blood, was based on the novel of the same name by David Morrell. It is sometimes known as “Rambo: First Blood”. The film presents the character of John Rambo played by Sylvester Stallone. It establishes Rambo as a Vietnam veteran who is trying to find his place in a society that does not want him. He runs into Sheriff Teasle, who sees him only as a drifter he doesn’t want in his city. He arrested Rambo, but the post-traumatic stress of his time as a prisoner of war caused Rambo to panic. He injures various deputies and escapes. A manhunt ensues, where Rambo turns out to be a killing machine, and the local police and the volunteer army are no match for him. Finally, Rambo’s mentor and former commander, Colonel Trautman arrives and convinces Rambo to surrender.

Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985):

John Rambo is in a prison labor camp for his crimes in First Blood. Colonel Trautman visited him and offered him the opportunity of a presidential pardon in exchange for assistance documenting the existence of prisoners of war still in Vietnam. Instead of just photographing the prisoners, Rambo saves one and the manager, Murdock, refuses to pick it up in the helicopter and Rambo is captured. Rambo escapes, rescues all the prisoners and destroys all of Murdock’s equipment. Afterwards, he refuses to return to America and goes away. Officially, George P. Cosmatos directed Rambo: First Blood Part II, but it was later revealed that Stallone actually had most of the management control.

Rambo III (1988):

Today, John Rambo lives in Thailand and is again visited by Colonel Trautman. Trautman is planning an arms delivery mission to Afghan fighters in their war against the Russians. Rambo refuses because he is tired of the war. However, later, he discovers that Trautman has been captured and he therefore enters and successfully rescues him.
