Ronda Jean Rousey is an American professional wrestler, actress, writer, former martial artist and judoka. She has signed WWE and is on hiatus. Her long-standing nickname “Rowdy” was inherited from professional wrestler Roddy Piper.

After winning the bronze medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics and becoming the first American woman to win an Olympic medal in judo, Rousey began pursuing a career in mixed martial arts (MMA). She made her MMA debut in the King of the Cage before going to Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion before the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) acquired Strikeforce in 2011. Rousey participated in the first women’s fight in UFC history when she successfully defended the title against Liz Carmouche at UFC 157. Holly Holm lost the title after setting a record for most UFC title defenses by women. In 2018, she became the first female fighter to enter the UFC Hall of Fame.

In 2018, Rousey began her professional wrestling career and signed a contract with WWE. She debuted at WrestleMania 34, and subsequently won her first WWE and professional wrestling title Raw Women’s Championship in Summer Slam. She then headlined WWE’s first all-female pay-per-view event when successfully defending the title against Nicky Bella in the WWE Evolution. Rousey lost WWE for the first time in a triple threat game at WrestleMania 35, losing the title in the first ever women’s WrestleMania main event against Becky Lynch. She reigned as the longest Raw Women’s Champion in 232 days in title history.

Rousey is also a successful actress and writer, starring in the films The Expendables 3 (2014), Furious 7 (2015), and Mile 22 (2018), releasing the autobiography My Fight / Your Fight in 2015 .

Rousey is the only woman to win both UFC and WWE, and the only woman to find a pay-per-view event at both companies. Rousey was named the best female athlete of all time in the 2015 ESPN fan vote, and Fox Sports described her as “one of the definitive athletes of the 21st century.”

Ronda Jean Rousey was born on February 1, 1987, in Riverside, California. She is the youngest of three daughters of Amalia de Mars (née Waddell) and Ron Rousey. Her mother, a decorated judo, was the first American to win the World judoka Championship (1984). Rousey is of English, Polish, Trinidadian, and Venezuelan ancestry.
