Sia Kate Isobelle Furler (born December 18, 1975) is an Australian singer, songwriter, voice actress, and director. She began her career as a singer in the acid jazz band Crisp in the mid-90s in Adelaide. In 1997, when Crisp disbanded, she released her debut studio album, OnlySee, in Australia. She moved to London, England, and sang for the British duo Zero 7. In 2000, Sia released her second studio album, Healing Is Difficult, and their third studio album, Color the Small One, in 2004, but they were all struggling to connect with the main audience.

In 2005, Sia moved to New York and toured the United States. Her fourth and fifth studio albums, Some People Have Real Problems, and We Are Born, were released in 2008 and 2010, respectively. Each was awarded a Gold Certification by the Australian Recording Industry Association and attracted wider attention than her previous albums. With no growing fame, Sia took a break from performing, focusing on songwriting for other artists, producing the successful collaborations of “Titanium” (with David Guetta), “Diamonds” (with Rihanna) and “Wild Ones.” (with Flo Rida).

In 2014, Sia broke through as a solo recording artist when her sixth studio album, 1000 Forms of Fear, debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 and generated the top 10 “Chandelier” singles and a trilogy of music videos, co-directed by Sia and starring child dancer Maddie Ziegler. Since then, Sia usually wears a wig that covers her face to protect her privacy. Her seventh studio album, This Is Acting (2016), released her first Billboard Hot 100 single, “Cheap Thrills.” In the same year, Sia gave her Nostalgic for the current tour, which included Ziegler dances and other elements of the performing arts. Her eighth studio album Everyday Is Christmas was released in 2017 and re-released in 2018 with three bonus songs. In 2018, she collaborated with Labrinth and Diplo as part of the LSD group, and in April 2019, they released their self-titled debut album.

Sia has written and directed a new feature film called Music. Among the awards received from Sia are nearly a dozen ARIA awards, 9 Grammy nominations, and an MTV Video Music Award.

Her father, Phil Colson, is a musician, and her mother, Loene Furler, is an art teacher. Sia is the niece of singer-actor Kelvin Colson. Sia said that as a child, she imitated the performance styles of Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, and Sting, who she believed were early influences. She attended high school in Adelaide.
