The Simpsons Movie is a 2007 animated comedy distributed by 20th Century Fox. It stars Dan Castellaneta in Homer, Julie Kavner in Marge, Nancy Cartwright in Bart, and Yeardley Smith in Lisa. The characters are based on the television show The Simpsons created by Matt Groening. The director is David Silverman.

The story takes place mainly in Springfield (no state is given as a gag running on the show). Homer Simpson decides to adopt a pig to save it from the slaughter at Krusty Burger. It begins to show more love for the pig than his son Bart. Bart begins to see neighbor Ned Flanders as a father figure. Homer plans to dispose of the pig’s feces properly, but after receiving a call from a friend about free donuts, he throws them into the nearest lake. The EPA reacts by placing a giant glass dome over the whole city, separating it from the rest of the world.

As we know, with any movie based on a TV show, we should have already seen the show to really appreciate the kind of humor displayed in the movie. While regular television characters offer their usual comedy brand, the new ones bring a more satirical form. For example, the president is portrayed as a celebrity with no idea who doesn’t really know what’s going on. Also, the evil EPA head Russ Cargill must look like a wealthy man trying to use his money to influence the president by giving him more power.

Aside from satire and the highly entertaining plot, this film has many sub-plots, the most notable of which is Homer and Bart’s relationship. As noted earlier, Homer adopts a pig and begins to show him more affection than Bart. As Homer continues to make mistakes, Bart continues to lose his respect for him, ultimately seeing his neighbor Ned Flanders as his father because he gave Bart the attention and affection he did not receive from Homer.
