The human skull is rich in symbolism throughout Western history. The skull as a symbol of the death is the result of the casualties caused by the bubonic plague, or Black Death, which decimated the population of Europe in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. Dance of Death, which depicts the men and women of all classes, dancing with a skeleton became popular artistic motif.
The bones of the skull are divided into two main groups: bones of the cranium and face of bones. Eight bones form the cranium and 14 bones make up the form the skeleton of the face, but the teeth are not considered as the skull bones.
