Uber Technologies, Inc., known as Uber, is a multinational US ride-hailing company offering services that include peer-to-peer ridesharing, food delivery (Uber Eats) and a micromobile system with electric bikes and scooters. The company is based in San Francisco and operates in more than 785 urban areas around the world. Access to its platforms is through websites and mobile applications.

By 2019, Uber is expected to have over 110 million users worldwide. In the United States, 67% of the car sharing market at the beginning of 2019 and 24% of the food delivery market in 2018. According to estimates by the National Bureau of Economic Research, in 2015, Uber amounted to $6.8 billion in consumer surplus.

As with other transport companies, Uber has been criticized for contempt of drivers, disruption of taxi operation and increased traffic congestion. The company has also been criticized for its aggressive strategy in working with regulators and for a number of unlawful practices.

Passengers use the application to book a ride where their fare is indicated. Uber uses a dynamic pricing model; prices for the same route vary depending on the supply and demand for attractions at the time of the ride is requested. At the end of the ride, payment is made based on the driver’s preferences, such as a credit card, Google Pay, Apple Pay, PayPal, cash or in India, an Paytm, Airtel mobile portfolio or a unified payment interface.
