Wolverine was introduced in 1974 in The Incredible Hulk #180 before his first major appearance in Hulk #181. He was born as James Howlett, but he affectionately called Logan. In 1975 Wolverine became a part of X-Men, but he played a lesser role than the other members of the team.

Dave Cockrum even considered dropping Wolverine from the team, but it was Cockrum’s successor, John Byrne, that kept Wolverine in the X-Men team. Some speculate that it is because Byrne is a Canadian like Wolverine.

Wolverine is very clever, but his personality is a little rough. Usually he is shown to be a loner and teamwork within the X-Men are often sporadic. Some other members of the team are Cyclops, Jean Grey, Gambit, Jubilee and Beast. His hard mentality of the anti-power makes it a favorite of many after the fallout of the Vietnam War. Wolverine character and was a breakthrough in terms of sales of comic and appearances overshadow his other team members.
