In popular science fiction, there are two popular goblin branches, including fantasy ones. Along with the descriptions of the orcs by J.R. R. Tolkien, the older branch is represented in the fantasy role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons, in which the ghouls look essentially evil and malicious, with different colors and usually matted and filthy hair. A distinctive green-haired, hairless, bizarre and generally immoral, rather than completely evil, type of goblins created for the Warhammer universe is a direct descendant of ghosts in more modern games, such as in the Warcraft universe and Magic: The Gathering.
Goblins are fairies that other races in the Artemis Fowl (2001–2012) series find very stupid. They are capable of creating fireballs (as Foaly points out, the transfer of this force to such unreasonable creatures is one of the nasty methods of evolution), and their skin is fireproof. Goblins are lucky if they manage to make friends, because they cannot cooperate with others. A group of them created B’wa Kell, a triad group that smuggled batteries and started riots that nearly destroyed Haven, the capital of incredible people.
Goblins in Harry Potter
The goblins in the Harry Potter science fiction series (1997-2007) are short, ugly creatures. Unlike many other depictions of goblins, they do not look silly, but rather cunning. Goblins tend to love money and actually run Gringotts, the Wizard Bank. They are also known that they are very good at creating magical objects like gnomes in other traditions, and they can recognize real goblin objects. Goblin morale has not been studied in detail; although they do not seem evil in nature, they are often insidious, cruel and troublesome and have organized numerous unrest in the history of magicians, often as a result of persecution, like other non-human beings, it is forbidden to carry a wand. They believe that the true owner of the item is the manufacturer, not the buyer, and that it is dangerous to cross them.
Green Goblin
The Green Goblin is the nickname of several fictional superstars appearing in American comics published by Marvel Comics. The first and most famous incarnation, created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, is usually considered the archenemy of Spider-Man. The Green Goblin is a Halloween-themed beast whose weapon resembles bats, ghosts and lanterns. Comic journalist and historian Mike Conroy writes about the hero: “Of all the costumed villains who have tortured Spider-Man for many years, the most striking and scary of them is the Green Goblin.” Green Goblin starred in several films, including Spider-Man since 2002 as Norman Osborn and 3-year-old Spider-Man 3 and 2014. Amazing Spider-Man 2 as Harry Osborn.
Goblins in Warcraft
In Warcraft, a high fantasy franchise created by Blizzard Entertainment, goblins – green, miniature, tricky races – known for their sometimes explosive, but usually effective technique. They also tend to be a neutral party between the Alliance and the Horde forces of Azeroth. Motivated almost entirely by greed, it is very likely that the only reason the goblins remain neutral in the ongoing conflict is that if they choose one side, they will not be able to benefit from the other. In World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, a goblin faction independent of those already in the game will become the Horde game race. In Warcraft III, goblins are usually traders, but some are game-neutral units – the Goblin Shredder, the rental unit that serves as the most efficient wood picker in the game, and the Goblin Tinker, the neutral character in The Frozen Throne.
