Batman is a fictional superhero appearing in American comics published by DC Comics. The character was created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger and first appeared in Detective Comics #27 in 1939. Originally named “Bat-Man,” it is also mentioned by epithets such as the Cape Crusader, The Dark Knight, and the World’s Greatest Detective.

Batman’s secret identity is Bruce Wayne, a wealthy American playboy, philanthropist and owner of Wayne Enterprises. After witnessing the murder of his parents, Dr. Thomas Wayne and Martha Wayne, as a child, he took revenge against the criminals by taking the oath of oath with a sense of justice. Bruce Wayne trains physically and intellectually and crafts a bat-inspired persona to fight crime.

Batman works in the fictional city of Gotham with various supporting characters, including his butler Alfred, police commissioner Jim Gordon and vigilant allies such as Robin. Unlike most superheroes, Batman does not have inhuman superpowers. Nevertheless, he has a brilliant intellect, a peerless martial artist, and his enormous wealth provides him with an exceptional arsenal of weapons and equipment. A large assortment of villains makes up the Batman’s rogues gallery, including his archaeology, the Joker.

The character became popular shortly after its appearance in 1939, and the following year acquired its name for the comic book “Batman.” For decades, various interpretations of character have appeared. In the late 1960s, Batman’s television series used a camp aesthetics, which continued to associated with the character years after the show ended. Various creators have worked to bring the character back to its dark roots, culminating in the 1986 Return of the Dark Knight by Frank Miller. The success of Warner Bros. Pictures’ live-action Batman feature films have helped preserve the character’s popularity in popular culture.
