Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is a 2022 American superhero film based on Marvel Comics that stars Shuri as the Black Panther. It is the sequel to Black Panther (2018) and the 30th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), produced by Marvel Studios and released by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The film, directed by Ryan Coogler, stars Letitia Wright as Shuri / Black Panther, alongside Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Mabel Cadena, Tenoch Huerta Meja, Martin Freeman, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Angela Bassett. In the film, the leaders of Wakanda strive to protect their country following the death of King T’Challa.

After the release of Black Panther in February 2018, ideas for a sequel began to emerge. Coogler negotiated a return to the director’s chair in the months that followed, and Marvel Studios formally confirmed the sequel’s development in mid-2019.

After Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman died from colon cancer in August 2020, Marvel decided not to recast his role as T’Challa. Other significant cast members from the initial film returned in November, and the title was announced in May 2021.

Filming began in Atlanta in late June 2021, at both Trilith Studios and Tyler Perry Studios, before shifting to Massachusetts in August, but was halted in November to allow Wright to heal from an injury received while filming. It began in mid-January 2022 and concluded in late March in Puerto Rico.
