In the Île-de-France region, Matuidi started his football career by playing for amateur teams like US Fontenay-sous-Bois and CO Vincennois. In 1999, he was selected to attend the prestigious Clairefontaine academy. Following his departure from Clairefontaine, Matuidi joined the Créteil semi-pro team and spent three years honing his skills at the team’s junior academy. He joined the Troyes professional team in 2004 and made his debut there in the 2004″05 season. Matuidi joined Saint-Étienne after playing for Troyes for three seasons.

He played his first game of European football with Saint-Étienne after competing in the 2008-09 UEFA Cup. He received manager Alain Perrin’s first-choice captaincy for the 2009″10 campaign. After four seasons with Saint-Étienne, Matuidi signed a three-year contract to join Paris Saint-Germain in July 2011.

During his tenure with the team, he earned sixteen domestic victories, including four straight Ligue 1 titles. In 2017, he signed with Juventus of Italy, where he won a domestic double in his first season, two more league wins in a row during the ensuing two seasons, as well as the 2018 Supercoppa Italiana. In the summer of 2020, he signed with Inter Miami of Major League Soccer.

Former France youth international Matuidi competed for his country at the under-19 and under-21 levels. He was awarded a runners-up medal at the Euro 2016 and a winner’s medal at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Faria Rivelino, an Angolan father, and Élise, a Congolese mother, were the parents of Matuidi when he was born in Toulouse, Haute-Garonne. Rivelino moved to France when he was a young man.

Matuidi, who also has four additional siblings, was raised in the Fontenay-sous-Bois neighborhood of Paris. While following Paris Saint-Germain, he developed an interest in football and developed an admiration for former PSG forward Jay-Jay Okocha.

He published his autobiography, “Au bout de mes rêves,” co-written with Ludovic Pinton, in May 2016.
