Bowser or King Koopa, is a fictional character and the main antagonist of the Nintendo’s Mario franchise. In Japan, the character bears the title Daimaō, Great Demon King). In the United States, this character was first named “Bowser, King of Koopas” and “King of the Koopas” in the instruction manual. Bowser is the leader in the turtle-like Koopa race has been Mario’s archenemy since his first appearance in the 1985 Super Mario Bros video game.

His ultimate goals are to kidnap Princess Peach, defeat Mario and conquer the Mushroom Kingdom. Since his debut, he has appeared in almost all Mario franchise games, usually acting as the main antagonist. Bowser is voiced by Kenny James. In addition to his usual animations and video games, he also appears in the 1993 action movie, where he is portrayed by Dennis Hopper.

Bowser was created by Nintendo designer and producer Shigeru Miyamoto. Miyamoto first introduced Bowser as an ox based on the Ox King from the Toei Animation film Toei Animation film Alakazam the Great. However, Nintendo designer Takashi Tezuka noted that the character is more like a turtle than an ox. Then Miyamoto and Tezuka began working together to determine the appearance of Bowser. Since the character was the leader of the tortoise-like Koopa Troopas, the two began to base his new appearance on them, creating a new illustration. In his final design, Miyamoto noted that he could make Bowser “look cool now.”

Miyamoto named him  Daimō Kuppa. Kuppa comes from the Japanese name, gukbap, a Korean dish. Miyamoto also reviewed the names  Yukke and Bibinba, also the Japanese names for Korean dishes yukhoe and bibimbap respectively).The Korean character name Bowser/Kuppa is not Gukbap, but  Koopa, which is essentially a phonetic round-trip translation. The name was in English Kuppa, not Kuppa, in Japanese versions until the release of Super Mario World.

In the movie, Super Mario Bros. Bowser is portrayed by Dennis Hopper and is called President Koopa. He is also briefly called King Koopa. This incarnation looks almost completely human, with blonde hair that he gets in the shape of a crown, and he often wears a black business suit and tie. However, after a brief acquaintance with his own evolution-reversing device from Mario Bros., he sometimes begins to take on some reptile features. The culmination of the film is that the Koopa turns into a huge green Tyrannosaurus rex to fight the Mario Bros., but later on, he turns into the primordial ooze.
