In 2014, Pratt cemented his reputation as a Hollywood leading man by starring in two critically and commercially successful films: Warner Animation Group’s The Lego Movie as Emmet Brickowski and Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy as Star-Lord. He was named one of the 100 most important persons in the world by Time magazine in 2015. Meanwhile, in 2016, he played the male lead in Passengers and was part of an ensemble cast in The Magnificent Seven.

Christopher Michael Pratt was born on June 21, 1979, in Virginia, Minnesota, to Kathleen Louise (née Indahl) and Daniel Clifton Pratt, who worked in mining and subsequently restoring houses. Pratt’s father died of multiple sclerosis in 2014. His mother comes from a Norwegian family. Pratt’s family relocated to Lake Stevens, Washington, when he was seven years old. Pratt finished sixth in a high school state wrestling competition, and when his wrestling coach asked him what he wanted to do with his life, he said, “I want to be a wrestler.” “‘I’m not sure, but I’m sure I’ll be famous and earn a shitload of money.’ I had no notion how to do it. I hadn’t taken any proactive measures.” In 1997, he graduated from Lake Stevens High School.

Pratt dropped out of community college midway through the first semester and wound up homeless in Maui, Hawaii, staying in a van and a tent on the beach after working as a cheap ticket salesperson and daytime stripper. According to The Independent, “It’s an amazing location to be homeless. We just drank and smoked pot while working part-time to cover gasfood, and fishing supplies.” He recalls listening to the Dr. Dre album 2001 on a regular basis until he learned every phrase; years later, he recited Eminem’s verses from the song “Forgot About Dre” during an interview on the spot. He worked for the Christian missionary group Jews for Jesus in Maui during his stay there.

Rae Dawn Chong, an actress and filmmaker, spotted Pratt while he was serving tables at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company restaurant in Maui when he was 19 years old. She cast him in her directorial debut, Cursed Part 3, a short horror film shot in Los Angeles. On the show Everwood, Pratt played Harold Brighton “Bright” Abbott, who was his first regular television role. He joined the cast of The O.C. during its fourth season when Everwood was canceled, playing activist Winchester “Ché” Cook. He also had an appearance in James McAvoy’s 2008 action thriller Wanted, in which he was beat with a keyboard by James McAvoy.

In April 2009, Pratt attended the premiere of Parks & Recreation.

Pratt debuted as Andy Dwyer in the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation in 2009. Producers loved Pratt so much that he was requested to become a series regular, despite the fact that he was just supposed to be a guest star. This turned out to be his breakout role.
