Civilization series consists of turn-based strategy computer game designed primarily by Sid Meier and various sequels and additional spinoffs.

Sid Meier’s Civilization is a computer game created by Sid Meier for MicroProse in 1991. The aim is to develop a great empire from the ground, or in other words: “to build an empire that will stand the test of time,” the game begins in 4000 BC, and the players are trying to expand and develop their empires over the centuries to the present day and nearly future. It is also known simply as Civilization or abbreviation Civ or Civ I. The generally acknowledged to be a pioneer in the genre of turn-based strategy games.

In 1996, Computer Gaming World named Civilization as number #1 in their list of the best games of all time on the computer.
