Election Day is the day when general elections are held. In many countries, general elections are held every Sunday to allow as many voters as possible, while in other countries elections are always held on weekdays. However, some countries or regions always make a day of choice on weekdays, thus satisfying both requests. Many countries allow voting or preliminary ballots before the elections, which avoids the problem.

The election day usually ends with a pre-election night, when the election results are tallied and the winners are announced.

Voting is a method for a group, such as a meeting or an electorate, to make a decision or express an opinion, usually after discussions, debates or election campaigns. Democrats prefer to hold high positions by voting. Residents of a place represented by the elected official are called “constituents”, and those who vote for the chosen candidate are called “voters”. There are different systems for collecting votes.

In a representative democracy, voting is the method by which voters appoint their representatives in their government. In direct democracy, voting is the method by which voters make direct decisions, convert bills into laws, etc.

Voting is a formal expression of the choice of a person for or against any proposal (for example, the proposed solution); for or against some ballot question; or for a specific candidate, a choice of candidates or a political party. Many countries use secret ballot, are practices to prevent voters from being intimidated and to protect their political privacy.

Voting is often performed in polling section; it is voluntary in some countries, compulsory in others, such as Australia.
