Emilia Isobel Euphemia Rose Clarke (born October 23, 1986) is a British actress. She studied at a drama center in London and has performed on numerous stage productions, including the work of The Company of Angels. After making her screen debut in a short film, her television debut made a guest appearance in 2009 on an episode of the British Medical Soap Opera Doctors. The following year, she was named one of the UK Stars of Tomorrow by Screen International magazine for her role in the Syfy movie Triassic Attack (2010).

Clarke has become internationally famous for her breakthrough role as Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO fantasy television series Game of Thrones (2011–2019). This role has attracted her critical acclaim and some praise. Includes three nominations for the drama series Primetime Emmy Awards and a prime time Emmy nomination for the outstanding lead actress in the drama series.

Clarke debuted on Broadway as Holly Golightly in 2013 at a breakfast production at Tiffany. Her film roles include Sarah Connor and Solo: science fiction film Terminator Genisys (2015) and Qi’ra. A Star Wars Story (2018). She has also appeared in the romantic films Me Before For You (2016) and Last Christmas (2019). Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2019.

She grew up in Oxfordshire. Her father was a theater sound engineer at Wolverhampton, while her mother was Vice President of Marketing at a global management consultancy. She has an older brother. Her interest in acting ignited at the age of three when she saw a musical showboat where her father worked. Clarke was educated at Rye St Antony School in Heddington and St. Edward School in Oxford and dropped out in 2005. After RADA, LAMDA, and Guildhall refused her, Clarke worked and traveled before entering the drama center London, where she graduated in 2009.

Clarke stated in a 2018 interview that her maternal grandmother was a child of a secret affair between Clark’s great grandmother and a man in the Indian subcontinent. Her grandmother had light makeup to hide the darker complexion she had inherited from her father.
