Gal Gadot-Varsano is a model and actress from Israel. She was crowned Miss Israel 2004 at the age of 18. She subsequently spent two years as a soldier in the Israel Defense Forces before enrolling at the IDC Herzliya College and pursuing her modeling and acting talents.

Gadot made her international cinematic debut in Fast & Furious (2009) as Gisele Yashar, a character she repeated in numerous later episodes of the franchise. She rose to international prominence for her role as Diana Prince / Wonder Woman in the DC Extended Universe, which began with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and continued with the solo film Wonder Woman (2017), the ensemble Justice League (2017), the sequel Wonder Woman 1984 (2020), and the alternate cut Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021).

Local media publications have named Gadot the “greatest Israeli superstar.” In 2018, Time magazine named her one of the world’s 100 most important people, and she has been in two yearly lists of the world’s highest-paid actresses.

Gadot was born on April 30, 1985, in Petah Tikva, Israel, where she grew up. She was reared in the city of Rosh HaAyin after that. Her given name means “wave” in Hebrew, while her surname means “riverbanks.” Irit (née Weiss), a physical education teacher, and Michael Gadot, an engineer, are her parents. Prior to her birth, they Hebraized their surname from “Greenstein” to “Gadot.” Her father descends from a sixth-generation Sabra family. Gadot’s maternal grandparents were both born in the twentieth century; her grandfather survived the Holocaust after being imprisoned in the Auschwitz incarceration camp during the German takeover of Czechoslovakia, while her grandmother managed to flee the continent before World War II broke out. She was raised in a “very Jewish, Israeli familial atmosphere” and is of Ashkenazi Jewish origin, according to her (Polish-Jewish, Austrian-Jewish, German-Jewish, and Czech-Jewish). Dana Gadot is her younger sister.

Gadot trained and danced jazz and hip-hop for 12 years while growing up in Israel, and her first jobs included babysitting and working at a local Burger King. She majored in biology and graduated from Rosh HaAyin’s Begin High School. In Israel, Jewish high schools send their sophomores on a Holocaust memorial tour to Poland, where they may firsthand witness and remember the Auschwitz and Majdanek concentration camps, as Gadot explained: “I was standing on a mound of ashes. I, as an entitled youngster, felt the pain that Muselmann was going through at the time. My eyes welled up with tears as I prepared to deliver my speech at the memorial service, and I couldn’t stop shaking. Coming full round from his youth to mine, I came home more mature and sobbed with my grandfather about it.”

At the age of 18, Gadot entered the Miss Israel pageant, believing it would be a pleasant experience. She told Glamour magazine, “I never believed I’d win.” Gadot enrolled as a combat fitness instructor in the Israel Defense Forces after completing her two-year required military duty. She began her service when she was 20 years old. “I believe the major reason was that the director Justin Lin really loved that I was in the military, and he wanted to use my understanding of weaponry,” Gadot says of her military background helping her land the role of Gisele in Fast & Furious. Gadot studied law and government at the IDC Herzliya campus in Herzliya, Israel, after her military duty.
