The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 (also known as the Samsung Galaxy Flip 4 in some territories) is a foldable smartphone that is part of the Samsung Galaxy Z series. It was announced alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 4 at the August 2022 edition of Galaxy Unpacked. It will be available on August 25, 2022.

The Z Flip 4 has the same clamshell design as the Z Flip, with an aluminum frame, and a 6.7-inch display protected by Samsung’s ultra-thin glass that can be folded into a 4.2-inch space. When folded, the Samsung logo appears in the center of the hinge. It also features a 1.9-inch cover screen. Users can now download widgets such as music, weather, alarm, timer, voice recorder, today’s schedule, Samsung Health, and bluetooth thanks to a change in the cover screen.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 comes in four different colors: graphite, pink gold, bora purple, and blue.

This year, Samsung made a number of design upgrades, beginning with the Flip 4’s appearance. When compared to the Flip 3, the rear glass panels have a frostier, matte finish, the frame is flatter, and the hinge that holds the phone together is slightly smaller. On paper, these modifications appear minor. In practice, though, they improve on the Flip 3’s already superb design. The matte glass panels feel sumptuous while disguising fingerprints, the flat frame gives the Z Flip 4 an even more distinct design, and the revised hinge, while minor, does reduce the Flip 4’s total footprint.

In terms of the hinge, it feels just as solid and dependable as it did with the Flip 3. Like that phone, Samsung claims the Z Flip 4 will withstand over 200,000 folds in its lifetime, which equates to around 100 folds each day over the course of five years. While I can’t comment to how the hinge will feel after a year or two of continuous use, it’s performed admirably during my time with the phone.

It opens and shuts effortlessly, but with enough resistance to avoid feeling fragile. The hinge is also sturdy enough to support the Z Flip 4 at practically any angle, allowing you to place it on a table with the screen up and facing you ” ideal for hands–free movie watching, video conferencing, and so on.

The glass panels and cover screen are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, the frame is made of Samsung’s proprietary Armor Aluminum, and the entire device is protected by an IPX8 water-resistance rating (enough to submerge it in up to 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes). Although there is no dust resistance, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is nearly as tough as a folding phone gets.

Internal horsepower has never been an issue for the Galaxy Z Flip range. The original Z Flip was outfitted with a Snapdragon 855+, the Z Flip 5G with an 865 5G+, and the Z Flip 3 with a Snapdragon 888 ” all of which were top-of-the-line Qualcomm CPUs at the time. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 is no exception, with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor.

The Z Flip 4’s available RAM is the sole possible irritation. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 includes 8GB of RAM for all storage variants, just like last year (and the year before that). It’s sufficient for juggling a few programs at once, but if you want to be a multitasking champ with a dozen or more apps open at once, 8GB may be a little too limited. And if multitasking is important to you, you’re definitely better off with the phone/tablet form factor offered by the Galaxy Z Fold 4.
