Injustice: Gods Among Us is a fighting game based on the DC Comics fictional universe. NetherRealm Studios created the game, which was released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. It was released in North America, Europe, and Australia in April 2013 and Japan in June 2013. Injustice: Gods Among Us – Ultimate Edition, an enhanced edition of the game, was published in November 2013 for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360, and Microsoft Windows.

For Android and iOS platforms, a free-to-play mobile app based on Injustice was also launched. In January 2013, a prequel comic book series of the same name, created by Tom Taylor, was released.

Players choose from a variety of DC Universe characters (including villains and heroes) to participate in battle to knock out their opponent. The game takes place in a 2.5D environment. While the character models and surroundings are displayed in three-dimensional visuals, the characters must battle in a two-dimensional arena. The controls, gaming mechanics, narrative-driven storyline, and online capabilities of NetherRealm Studios’ previous release, Mortal Kombat, are all carried over to Injustice.

The plot takes place in a parallel reality situated within the DC Multiverse. After the Joker fools him into killing Lois Lane and destroying Metropolis with a nuclear weapon, Superman becomes a tyrant and establishes a new global order. In order to halt this, Batman invites alternate world versions of the League’s members to join his rebellion and overthrow the tyrannical dictatorship.

Critics appreciated the game’s plot, gameplay features, and usage of the DC Comics license, and it got favorable reviews. During the month of its release, Injustice became the best-selling game in the United States and the United Kingdom. In 2013, the game was also nominated for many accolades for “Best Fighting Game.” Injustice 2 was published in May 2017 as a sequel.

A game-based animated film is presently under production.

Injustice: Gods Among Us is a fighting game in which players control characters with various fighting styles and special strikes and engage in one-on-one combat in order to empty their opponent’s life gauge. The game is rendered in 2.5D, with movement limited to a two-dimensional plane and characters and scenery displayed in three dimensions. Injustice employs a system akin to the Killer Instinct series, rather than the typical fighting game concept of many rounds with regenerated life bars.

Each match consists of a single round with two life bars for each participant. The game has a four-button control scheme with light, medium, and heavy strikes and a “character trait” button that triggers a special ability or attack for each character. Superman’s character feature, for example, gives him a brief increase in strength, while Batman’s unleashes a swarm of robotic bats.
