The James Bond series revolves around a fictitious British Secret Service agent established by writer Ian Fleming in 1953 and featured in twelve novels and two short story collections. Kingsley Amis, Christopher Wood, John Gardner, Raymond Benson, Sebastian Faulks, Jeffery Deaver, William Boyd, and Anthony Horowitz are among the eight authors who have authored approved Bond novels or novelisations after Fleming’s death in 1964. Anthony Horowitz’s latest novel, Forever and a Day, was released in May 2018. Kate Westbrook published three books based on the journals of a recurrent series character, Moneypenny, while Charlie Higson developed a series on a young James Bond.

The character has also been adapted for televisionradiocomic strips, video games, and film under the code name 007 (pronounced “double-O-seven”). The films are the longest continuously running film series of all time, with a total gross of over US$7.04 billion, making them the sixth-highest-grossing film series of all time. The series began in 1962 with Dr. No, starring Sean Connery as Bond, and has since grossed over US$7.04 billion, making it the sixth-highest-grossing film series of all time. There have been twenty-four films in the Eon Productions series as of 2021. The most current Bond film, Spectre (2015), starring Daniel Craig as Bond for the fourth time; he is the Eon series’ sixth Bond actor. Casino Royale (a 1967 parody starring David Niven) and Never Say Never Again (a 1983 remake of a previous Eon-produced film, 1965’s Thunderball, both starring Sean Connery) are two independent Bond films. The series was valued at $19.9 billion in 2015, making it one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time.

The Bond films are known for a variety of aspects, including the musical accompaniment, with the theme songs receiving many Academy Award nominations and two victories. Bond’s cars, guns, and the gadgets he is supplied with by Q Branch are also important elements that run through most of the films. Bond’s relationships with various women, sometimes referred to as “Bond girls,” are also well-known in the films.

James Bond, a fictitious character created by Ian Fleming, is the principal figure in his books. Bond is a member of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), sometimes known as MI6. Bond was a Royal Naval Reserve Commander and was known by his code number, 007, during his career. Bond was “a compound of all the secret spies and commando types I encountered during the war,” according to Fleming, who based his fictional figure on a number of people he knew while serving in the Naval Intelligence Division and 30 Assault Unit during WWII. His brother, Peter, was one of those kinds, having been involved in behind-the-scenes activities in Norway and Greece during the war. Aside from Fleming’s brother, a number of people, including Conrad O’Brien-ffrench, Patrick Dalzel-Job, and Bill “Biffy” Dunderdale, contributed to Bond’s make-up.

The name James Bond was inspired by American naturalist James Bond, a Caribbean bird specialist and author of Birds of the West Indies, the classic field guide. “It struck me that this concise, unromantic, Anglo-Saxon and yet extremely manly name was precisely what I needed, and thus a second James Bond was created,” Fleming later explained to the ornithologist’s wife. He continued by saying:
