English actor Jason Statham has become a staple in tough guy action movies of late. This buff, a very friendly Englishman, actually insists on doing all his stunts and fighting the scenes himself without any support. Statham was born in Sydenham, London, in the hall of a singer and dancer. As a child, he played sports, namely football; however, he was keen for diving and for twelve years was a member of the Britain’s National Diving Squad. Perhaps his sportsmanship and love of sport contributed to the action roles that he subsequently took upon himself during his acting career.

Snatch

This film marked Jason Statham’s second collaboration with director Guy Ritchie. In it, Statham plays a boxing promoter named Turkish, who finds himself in the grip of a crazy gangster named Brick Top. The film also stars Brad Pitt as the incomprehensible Irish boxer, Benicio Del Toro in the roles of Frankie Four Fingers and Dennis Farina. The film is similar in style to “Smoking Barrels,” with its fast pace and ironic twists.

The One

This 2001 film puts Statham in the shoes of a cop from the future. He stars alongside Jet Li. Although the film has not garner any awards, this is an exciting martial arts lesson worthy of watching this movie.

The Transporter Films: These films made Statham even more popular than he was. Director Luc Besson himself chose an English actor to star these action vehicles as Frank Martin, a criminal transporter. Martin used to serve in the army, but retired and used his skills for more financially sound work. This extremely lucrative movie series is certainly full of thrills and loads of high definition action.
