Tyson Smith (born October 16, 1983) is a professional wrestler from Canada who goes by the ring name Kenny Omega. Omega is the executive vice president of All Elite Wrestling (AEW), where he also works as a wrestler. He also performs in Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide and Impact Wrestling, all of which are affiliated with AEW. In his first reign, Omega has won three global championships in different promotions: the AEW World Championship, the AAA Mega Championship, and the Impact World Championship. He’s also a previous member of the AEW World Tag Team Championship team.

Omega is most remembered for his time with New Japan Pro-Wrestling, where he held the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, IWGP Intercontinental Championship, and was the first IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion, among other championships. He was a member of the Bullet Club stable, subsequently acting as the group’s leader, and was also noted for his video game-inspired character. When he defeated Hirooki Goto in the 2016 finals, he became the first and only non-Japanese professional wrestler to win the G1 Climax, the promotion’s flagship competition.

Omega has also appeared in independent promotions throughout the world, including DDT Pro-Wrestling, Jersey All Pro Wrestling, and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and major national and international outfits like Ring of Honor.

Omega was voted Sports Illustrated’s Wrestler of the Year in 2017 and topped Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s top 500 male wrestlers the following year. He is widely regarded as one of the finest professional wrestlers in the world.

Tyson Smith was born on October 16, 1983, in Transcona, Manitoba. Smith’s mother works in family services, while his father is a transport officer for the Canadian government as of 2016.

Smith’s interest in professional wrestling began when he was a youngster, watching recordings of WWE (then-WWFSaturday ) ‘s Night’s Main Event, which quickly became his favourite show. Smith was a goalkeeper in ice hockey as a kid. In addition, he worked at IGA and Costco locations.

After one of his Transcona Collegiate Institute (TCI) classmates began training with Top Rope Championship Wrestling (TRCW) in Winnipeg, Smith got interested in pursuing a career in professional wrestling. Smith gave up his intentions to play ice hockey and began training with TRCW promoter Bobby Jay, whom he met while stacking shelves at an IGA shop. In the year 2000, Smith, just 16 years old, made his professional wrestling debut after a year of training with Jay.

For the next two years, he wrestled for TRCW, where he established the gimmick of a Hawaiian surfer dubbed Kenny Omega. Later, the surfer element was abandoned in favour of an otaku-inspired gimmick. He graduated from TCI in 2001 and enrolled in university, but left out after his first year to pursue professional wrestling full-time.
