Kobe Bean Bryant (born August 23, 1978-January 26, 2020) was an American professional basketball player. As a shooting guard, Bryant joined the National Basketball Association (NBA) directly from high school. He played all 20 seasons of his professional career in league with the Los Angeles Lakers. Bryant has won many accolades: 5 NBA Championships, 18 All-Stars, 15 All NBA Team Members, 12 All-Defensive Team Members, 2008 NBA MVP (MVP), Winner of the 2nd NBA Finals MVP. Widely recognized as one of the greatest players in history, leading the NBA with two seasons of scoring, with league regular season scoring and postseason scoring. He was ranked 4th in the league’s all-time regular-season scoring and all-time postseason scoring lists.

Bryant was the son of former NBA player Joe Bryant. He attended Lower Mellion High School in Pennsylvania. There, he was recognized as the best high school basketball player in the country. After graduating, he declared the 1996 NBA Draft and was ranked 13th by Charlotte Hornets. The Hornets then traded him to the Lakers. As a rookie, Bryant won the 1997 Slam Dunk Contest and was named an All-Star in the second season, gaining fame as a favorite of high flyers and fans. Despite a feud with teammate Shaquille O’Neal, the pair led the Lakers to the third consecutive NBA Championship from 2000 to 2002. In 2003, Bryant was accused of sexual assault by a 19-year-old hotel clerk. A criminal case was filed after the indictor refused to testify, then withdrawn, and the civil case was later settled out of court. Bryant denied the assault charge but publicly apologized to a sexual encounters.

After the Lakers lost to the 2004 NBA Finals, O’Neal was traded, and Bryant became the Lakers’ cornerstone. During the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 seasons, he led the NBA scoring. In 2006, he earned 81 points in his career. It was second only to 1962’s Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game to score the second-highest score in a league match. He experienced tearing of the Achilles tendon at the age of 34 until 2013 and remained one of the league’s top players. He recovered from the injury but suffered an end-of-season injury to his knees and shoulders in the next two seasons, respectively. Bryant retired after the 2015-2016 season because of his physical decline.

At ages 34 and 104 days, Bryant has become the youngest player in league history to reach 30,000 career points. On February 1, 2010, in the Lakers franchise history, he passed Jerry West and became the highest scorer ever. Bryant was also the first keeper to play at least 20 seasons in NBA history.
