Lewis Marc Capaldi (born October 7, 1996) is a Scottish Singer-songwriter. He was nominated for the Critics’ Choice Award at the 2019 Brit Awards. In March 2019, his single “Someone You Loved” topped the UK Singles Chart, where it remained for seven weeks, and in November 2019, reached number one on the American Billboard Hot 100, was nominated for the 62nd Annual Grammy for Song of the Year and won the 2020 Brit Award for Song of the Year. Capaldi also received the 2020 Brit Award for Best New Artist.

On May 17, 2019, he released his debut album, Divinely Uninspired to Hellish Extent, which remained at the top of the UK album list for six weeks. It has topped the UK Albums Chart a total of 9 times and still hasn’t left the UK Top 10 or the US Top 50 Albums Chart since its release.

In May 2020, it was announced that Capaldi’s song “Someone You Loved” was the longest-released UK Top 10 single of all time, according to Official Charts Company. Capaldi was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and lived there until he was four years old. He is the youngest of four children. His mother is a nurse, and his father is a fisherman. Capaldi attended St. Kentigern Academy, Blackburn in West Lothian. He graduated from New College Lanarkshire, Motherwell, in 2016 with a degree in HND. Capaldi learned to play drums and guitar when he was two and began his musical career singing in pubs at the age of nine. At 17, he embarked on a musical career.

In 2014, Capaldi took part in a three-day tour as part of the ‘Hit the Road’ project run by The Scottish Music Centre. He played in Dumfries, Edinburgh, and Fort William alongside Jacob, Rory Green, and Zoe Bestel.

At 18, he was discovered by his manager Ryan Walter using an iPhone recording that Capaldi recorded in his bedroom and uploaded to his SoundCloud account. The day after his first contact with Capaldi, Walter flew from America to Britain to listen to Capaldi’s live performance.

He released his debut extended recording for the Bloom EP on October 20, 2017, on which he worked with Grammy Award-winning producer Malay, a long-time collaborator of Frank Ocean. He later released his first song “Bruises” on March 31, 2017. The song quickly amassed nearly 28 million plays on Spotify worldwide, making him the fastest unsigned artist to reach 25 million plays. Shortly after that, he was signed to the Universal Music Group’s German subsidiary and assigned to the Vertigo Berlin division. His releases are distributed in the UK by Virgin EMI Records and in North America by Capitol Records.
