Princess Merida is a fictional character and the protagonist of the Disney • Pixar 2012 film Brave. She is a Scottish princess who likes archery and unintentionally triggers trouble in her kingdom by trying to challenge her mother, Queen Elinor, who organizes a marriage competition for her daughter’s hand involving the Four Most Powerful Clans of the Lands Highs. But when she exchanges her medallion with a witch for a spell that is supposed to change the queen’s view of marriage, Merida turns her mother into a bear, a context in which the main part of the story unfolds, as mother and daughter embark on a quest to reverse the spell.

Princess Merida is the tenth member of the Disney Princesses franchise.
