Contrary to popular belief, piranhas do not only eat live food. They don’t just eat meat. Piranhas are omnivores. In other words, they can eat anything (not only meat, but also greens). It is important to keep the diet of piranhas varied. Piranhas can be taught to eat dead food. When feeding piranha’s dead food, it may be best to splash it around a little (to mimic living behavior) long enough to get the piranha’s attention. It is essential to understand the risks involved when feeding piranhas. Many of these feeders are in poor health and can carry diseases that can be transmitted to piranhas. Be sure to isolate live feeders before feeding them to the piranha.
Piranhas are not particularly picky fish when it comes to food. They eat whatever food is dropped into the tank. Don’t worry if you just bought a piranha and aren’t eating it. It may take some time for piranhas to start eating. So they not eat much during the first days or weeks, as piranhas become comfortable and take time before they get used to the new environment. There are several things you can do to speed up this process. You can do it:
Turn off the lights for a few days
Piranhas do not like light very much. Since they come from murky water, turning off the lights can help reduce their stress.
Increase the temperature slightly
Doing this will help stimulate the appetite of piranhas. However, be careful not to overdo it. 1-2 degrees is enough.
Try to give your piranha enough space to hide in your tank.
Otherwise, the piranha will remain exposed and prolong the period of rest.
The most important thing you can do is give time. Piranhas do not die from a starve, so try feeding them normally.
After a while, the piranhas get used to the new home and start eating regularly.
