An entertainment promoter works in the entertainment industries, including music and sports, as an individual or an organization that marketing and promoting live or pay events and the like, such as concerts/gigs, sporting events, festivals, raves, and performances in night clubs.

Promoters are usually engaged as independent performers or representative companies through entertainment establishments, earn a pre-agreed fee or share of income (colloquially known as “cut” and “house share”), or both. Revenue share is often a simple percentage of admission fees (called “doors”) and sales of food and beverages, with many possible options, such as minimum or maximum, premiums for various expenses or restrictions (for example, sales of alcohol only after midnight). Other promoters operate independently, renting space for a flat fee or under a revenue-sharing agreement with the site owner, thus maintaining higher margins from successful events. Typically, the promoter wins all admission fees for small establishments, while all proceeds from food and drinks remain with the establishment.

Some locations have exclusive deals with one advertising company, and others work with several promoters on an alternating schedule (for example, one night per week) or on an individual basis. Promoters often work together – either as equal partners or as subcontractors of each other’s events. Several promoters can work together on a special event like a big New Year’s Eve party at the hotel’s ballroom. They can also attract freelance hosts due to their social influence; these amateur promoters advertise the event to their circle of friends and social media followers in exchange for special treatment and temporary free access to the event and may form or be part of street teams that promote other live entertainment events.

At a minimum, the event promoter is in the business of advertising and advertising. Depending on the arrangement, they can also deal with security, ticket sales, admission to events (door policies), decorations, registration, and reservations for other artists. Many promoters are DJs or musicians themselves and can perform at their events. Some bloggers and people with a large number of social media followers may be considered promoters and may charge fees for advertising services through their platforms or social media or through their own efforts.

Many musicians and artists act as de facto promoters of their concerts directly or through their managers or a reservation company.
