Realme (stylized as a realme) is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer based in Shenzhen. The brand was officially created on May 4, 2018 (National Youth Day in China) by former Vice President of Oppo Electronics, Sky Li (born Bingzhong Li). Realme also manufactures a variety of products such as headphones, fitness bands and bags.

Realme first appeared in China as “OPPO Real” in 2010. It was a subsidiary of OPPO Electronics Corporation until its separation in 2018, but later became its own brand under the multinational BBK Electronics in China.

On July 30, 2018, Sky Li, the former vice president and general manager of OPPO, announced the official resignation from OPPO and plans to establish the realme name as an independent brand on the Weibo which is a Chinese microblogging site. In the future, brands in this sector have added that they will focus on providing high-performance mobile phones with stylish designs, fun youth, accessible ‘technology’ and ‘beauty’.

As of August 2019, realme had 10 million users worldwide.

In August 2019, Realme introduced 64MP quad cameras in China and India.

Market

In May 2018, Realme launched the first “realme 1” product for the Indian market in India. As the target is a global market, coverage continues to grow geographically, as are potential markets in Southeast Asia. Realme entering in Indonesia first in the region.

Realme has announced its will be entering the continental market in China and Taiwan to commemorate its first anniversary.

Realme launched on the Australian market in October 2019.

In November 2019, Realme held 14.3% of the Indian smartphone market.
