The Man on the Run Rhythm Nation is a street and fad dance that started in late 1986″early 1987 and was popularized by Janet Jackson in the video for her single “Rhythm Nation,” as well as on the Rhythm Nation World Tour and other live appearances. One of Fela Kuti’s back-up dancers/ex-wife performed the dance in a Fela Kuti show named “Cross Examination” in Berlin in 1978. It was also covered by MC Hammer, Bobby Brown, Milli Vanilli, and Vanilla Ice during live concerts and music videos, but it regained prominence in the 2000s. Some variants of the Melbourne shuffle dance style employ it as well. It consists of a hopping or sliding step performed quickly to imitate a runner.

In 2007, Britney Spears paid tribute to The Running Man on her M+M’s: Concerts From The HOB Tour 2007, while Scarlett Johansson said in an interview with Seventeen, “I do a terrific Running Man.”

The Utah Saints re-released “Something Good” in 2008. The film, which takes place in 1989, reveals that the Running Man craze began in Cardiff, Wales. It depicts a large number of people doing the Running Man, and it concludes with MC Hammer signing away the “rights” to the dance under duress.
