Samuel Leroy Jackson is an actor and producer from the United States. He is widely recognized as one of the most successful performers of his generation, with over $27 billion in worldwide box office receipts from the films in which he has starred, making him the highest-grossing actor of all time (when cameo appearances are excluded). On December 21, 1948, Samuel Leroy Jackson, the sole child of Elizabeth Harriett (née Montgomery) and Roy Henry Jackson, was born in Washington, D.C. He was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee. His father resided in Kansas City, Missouri, away from the family, and subsequently died of alcoholism. Jackson only met him twice in his life.

He was reared by his mother, a factory worker who eventually became a mental facility supply buyer, as well as his maternal grandparents, Edgar and Pearl Montgomery, and extended family. Jackson is descended from the Benga people of Gabon, according to DNA testing, and he became a Gabonese citizen in 2019. He went to various segregated institutions before graduating from Chattanooga’s Riverside High School. In the school orchestra, he played the French horn, piccolo, trumpet, and flute.

During his childhood, he developed a stammer and learnt to “pretend to be other individuals who didn’t stutter.” To get over a speech barrier, he still employs the phrase “motherfucker.” He still stutters from time to time. He attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, with the intention of earning a degree in marine biology.

He discovered an interest in acting and shifted his degree after joining a local acting club to obtain additional points in a class. He co-founded the Just Us Theatre before graduating in 1972.
