SpiderWoman is the code name for a number of fictitious characters appearing in Marvel Comics. Jessica Drew is the first and original version, while Julia Carpenter is the second.

In 1978, shortly after Spider-debut Woman’s in Marvel Spotlight #32 (Feb. 1977) and the commencement of the character’s 50-issue self-titled series (cover-dated April 1978 ” June 1983), Marvel Comics’ then-publisher Stan Lee stated that the character was created because,

“I instantly realized that another firm may rapidly publish a book like that and claim the right to use the name, so I figured we’d best copyright the name right now. So we simply swiftly batted one, and that’s what occurred. I wanted to keep the name because it’s the kind of thing where someone else may say, ‘Hey, why don’t we send out a Spider-Woman; they won’t be able to stop us.’ Years ago, we released Wonder Man, and when they sued us because they had Wonder Woman, I said, “OK, I’ll stop doing Wonder Man.” They’ve got Power Girl all of a sudden. Oh, my goodness. What a pity.”

There were more after the first Spider-Woman series. Volume two was a miniseries that ran from November 1993 to February 1994; volume three, with Jessica Drew, the original Spider-Woman, ran from July 1999 to December 2000; and volume four, including Jessica Drew, the original Spider-Woman, ran from November 2009 to May 2010.

Jessica Drew starred as Spider-Woman in Volume Five, which lasted from November 2014 through the fall of 2015. Jessica boasts in The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 3 #13, published in March 2015 “I’ve never needed to be rescued. Ever. See my wiki page for further information.” Spider-Woman Vol. 6 was released in November 2015 as part of Marvel’s All-New, All-Different event, with the same creative team as Volume 5. She wore the same outfit as in Book 5, but she was pregnant and worked as a private detective in this volume. Spider-Woman #5, the 5th issue of Volume 7, written by Karla Pacheco, will be the title’s 100th issue in October 2020, and Marvel will commemorate the milestone with a special giant-sized edition.

In 1944, Harry “A” Chesler’s Dynamic Comics produced an unrelated “Spider-Woman.” Helen Goddard was a non-superpowered criminal fighter who made her first and only appearance in Major Victory #1, a Golden Age comic book.

On the 1970s PBS children’s television series The Electric Company, a character known as “Spider-Woman” (Valerie the Librarian) appears in the recurrent live-action comedy “Spidey Super Stories.” She also appears as Spider-Woman in the Spidey Super Stories #11 spin-off comic book series (August 1975). She is devoid of superpowers.

Spider-Woman is a moniker for multiple different incarnations of Mary Jane Watson. In the Marvel Mangaverse, the first version is a Spider-clan ninja, while another variant appears in the Exiles series.

Ashley Barton is the daughter of Tonya Parker and Hawkeye, who did not approve of the way Kingpin ran Hammer Falls in Old Man Logan. She transforms into “Spider-B****,” forming an alliance with a new Punisher and Daredevil to reclaim Hammer Falls, only to be kidnapped and Daredevil and Punisher fed to the carnivorous dinosaurs. Hawkeye frees his daughter from her prison cell. Hawkeye and Ashley face Kingpin, who is killed by Ashley, who then takes control of Hammer Falls. As Ashley sends her men after them, Old Man Logan comes to Hawkeye’s rescue.

Ashley is one of the spider-powered people recruited by Superior Spider-Man (Doctor Octopus’ consciousness in Peter Parker’s body) to assist combat the Inheritors in the “Spider-Verse” storyline, now known as Spider-Woman. The moniker “Spider-B****” was changed to “Spider-Woman” in order to make the plot more family-friendly.

After her father’s death, Spider-Girl, Peter and MJ’s daughter from the parallel world MC2, began calling herself Spider-Woman.

Spidra is a character that appears on Earth X. She was one of the Microverse’s final survivors when Psycho-effort Man’s to drive the whole realm insane failed. Spidra and the rest of the Ant Men, who were once known as the Microns, escaped with the rest of the Ant Men and were tasked with keeping an eye on Immortus. They would subsequently be present for King Britain and Medusa’s wedding.

Nell Ruggles was a young disturbed girl in the Squadron Supreme series who, after getting her powers, killed her classmates who had tormented her in the past. Her superhuman abilities, on the other hand, allowed her to be linked to a gadget brought back from the Moon by the Icarus One crew. She was caught by the Blur while fleeing her house and handed over to Nick Fury’s S.H.I.E.L.D. She can’t leave since she’s wearing an electroshock collar, but she seems to be making the most of it, making friends and eventually falling in love with Tucker Ford, Biogeneral.
