Thanos is a fictional supervillain appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character was created by writer-artist Jim Starlin and first appeared in “The Invincible Iron Man No. #55″ (cover of February 1973). Thanos is one of the most powerful villains in the Marvel Universe and has clashed with many heroes, including The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Fantastic Four, and X-Men.

The character appeared in the cinematic universe of Marvel, portrayed by Damion Poitier in Avengers (2012) and Josh Brolin in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019) with voice and motion capture. The character also appeared in various comic adaptations, including animated television series and video games.

Thanos was born on the moon of Saturn, Titan as the son of the Eternal but she was stopped by A’lars. Thanos carries the Deviant gene and thus shares the physical appearance of the cousin race of Eternity. Shocked by his appearance and the belief that he would destroy all life in the universe, Sui-san tried to kill him, but A’lars stopped her. In school, Thanos was a pacifist and only played with his brother Eros and pets. As a teenager, Thanos became interested in nihilism and death, worshiping and ultimately falling in love with the physical embodiment of death, Mistress Death. As an adult, Thanos increased his physical strength and powers through his excellent scientific knowledge. He also tried to create a new life for himself, having given birth to many children, and also to become a pirate. He finds no satisfaction in one until he is visited again by the Mistress Death, for whom he kills his offspring and his pirate captain.
