PlayStation 2 (abbreviated PS2) is a video game console that was developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment, formerly Sony Computer Entertainment. It is the successor of PlayStation, and is the second installment of the PlayStation consoles.

PlayStation 2 is currently the best selling video game console in history, selling over 155 million units to 150 million confirmed by Sony in 2011. More than 3.874 titles were released for the PS2 since launch and more than 1.5 billion copies have been sold. Sony later released several smaller, lighter revision console known as the Slimline model in 2004, and, in 2006, announced the start of its successor, PlayStation 3.
